Young Dove

I wonder sometimes if I will recognize young birds when they appear out back. This morning I could tell right away with this young mourning dove. It appeared on the deck with the others, but obviously smaller, and a bit more speckled I thought.

It tried to join one of the adults at the feeder,  but was scolded and pecked at.

I felt bad for the young one, but I guess it’s all part of growing up.

I have lots of these young doves too, and most of them are quite shy. They will quickly fit in with all the rest though.
It’s raining this morning, and doesn’t look like a very nice day to be outside.

Tell those mature doves, “Jean is majorly disappointed in you.”
I love mourning doves, we have a lot here.

I have house sparrows doing the same thing — mamas and papas pecking at the younger ones. I think juncos do the same, too. I think it’s all a part of growing up, but I still feel so sorry for the youngsters.
